Description

This unusually configured sampler, featuring five large complex darning patterns worked in monochrome (blue/green)silk, by Ann Coleman in 1815, is in generally fine condition (some slight darkening to the tammy base fabric; a small brown spot to the upper right darn). Presented in a glazed, well figured, flat section, birdseye maple veneer frame with original gold leaf slip (slight damage to top left). Overall; h40.2cm x w46.6cm (15¾” x 18⅜” approx.): Visible; h30.5cm x w36.9cm (12″ x 14½” approx.).

English.

Note:
One can but speculate just how far along young Ann Coleman had proceeded with her fine box stitch name/place/date before realizing all was upside down.
