18th century tapestry panel elaborately worked, on a lightly napped ground, in single strand, twist, and wrapped silver & gilt metal thread and cord, with polychrome silk fill and sequin accents; depicting a peacock perched on a thin branch of an extraordinary, large leafed, budding and blooming, potted plant. Prior to framing, this was exposed to domestic atmosphere as either part of a wall tapestry, or possibly a bed canopy; there is some darkening to the backing fabric, and some rubbing and loss of thread and wire work due to handling, and this exposure. The item, exuding Georgian period atmosphere, is presented in an early Victorian faux rosewood frame with original drawn glass. Overall; h50cm x w51.5cm (19½” x 20¼” approx.): Visible; h40cm x w41.5cm (15¾” x 16¼” approx.).
